Moke International opens new Leamington Spa plant
10th April 2025
MOKE International, the iconic British car manufacturer, has officially opened its new, wholly owned manufacturing facility in Leamington Spa, UK, marking a significant milestone in the company’s 60th year. The new facility will boost production efficiency, improve product quality, and strengthen MOKE’s ability to meet the growing global demand for its Electric MOKE. With production targets exceeding 500 units this year for markets including the USA and the Mediterranean, MOKE continues to contribute to the UK economy as a net exporter.
Earlier this month, MOKE International hosted an exclusive reveal event, attended by retail partners from Europe, Middle East and the USA, along with Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington, Matt Western, Chair of the APPG on Electric Vehicles. The event celebrated British engineering and MOKE’s growing international presence.
The new Leamington Spa facility reflects the company’s commitment to British engineering and innovation in the EV sector. The company has created dozens of new clean-tech jobs as part of the expansion, and has tripled its workforce.
At the open day, MOKE unveiled a range of new colourway options for body, Bimini, and wheels, expanding the range of choices for customers. These updates reinforce the company’s focus on sustainability, style and innovation.
Nick English, Executive Chairman at MOKE International, said: “It’s great to be bringing back production to the UK, and indeed the car manufacturing heartland in the Midlands, where the MOKE was originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis. As we now celebrate 60 years of MOKE, we are thrilled to be marking such an exciting chapter, enhancing our craftsmanship and innovation while laying the foundation for future success.”
Discussing the factory opening in Leamington Spa, Matt Western, MP for Warwick and Leamington, “I was delighted to visit MOKE International in Leamington earlier this month and see first-hand the innovation that has and continues to go into the Electric MOKE.
“It is excellent to see the creation of new jobs in the EV sector which will continue to grow and hear of the company’s commitment to working with local suppliers in the production of the vehicles. I am looking forward to seeing MOKE International continue to grow and succeed and am confident that Leamington Spa will provide an ideal home for this growth and success.”
This investment in British manufacturing also represents a commitment to people. MOKE’s expansion has created dozens of new roles across production, engineering, quality, supply chain, and aftersales support. A key focus now is on developing home-grown talent through apprenticeship and graduate schemes, supporting the future EV workforce, and contributing to the UK economy.
The new facility is also a strategic step in MOKE International’s long-term vision. With significant investments in safety, homologation, and country-specific compliance, the Electric MOKE is now available in the USA, Mexico, France, Spain & the Balearic Islands, Italy, and soon, Greece. The vehicle has achieved M1 Small Series Approval, EPA Certification, and CARB approval, making it the first EV from a low-volume manufacturer to achieve this distinction and enabling MOKE International to sell in all 50 US states.
Sustainability remains a core focus for MOKE International, with approximately 70 per cent of the Electric MOKE’s components sourced from Europe. This places MOKE among the few independently owned car manufacturers to achieve this distinction.
Additionally, MOKE has been invited to join Walpole the prestigious governing body for the UK's luxury goods sector, further cementing its reputation for best-of-British craftsmanship.
